“Strengthening infrastructure to support economic development and basic services with a major project assigned to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation through the program of 37 route of air bridge in Papua,” director general of civil aviation, Novie Riyanto, said during a hearing meeting with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The priority project is part of the Government’s 2022 Work Plan (RKP) in the context of economic recovery and structural reforms, he added.
Through the construction of the air routes, airports in Papua region will be able to support each other for distributing basic goods via air cargo transportation, Riyanto said.
He said he hopes that the project would help resolve the problem concerning the price of basic commodities, especially in underdeveloped, remote, outermost and border areas.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation will get a budget ceiling of Rp7.03 trillion in 2022, he added.
“In addition to being budgeted for routine spending, we also direct it to the maintenance and development of the connectivity infrastructure that has been determined,” he said.
